Earl’s Cup

History

Earl’s Cup is a Ryder Cup format between Greytown & St. Cathryn’s. The tournament was started in 2019 as a memorial in honour of Earl Browning, a lifelong member & supporter of the Greytown Country Club who took up golf at 30, after giving up motor racing & rugby, & passed away in 2018 at the age of 88.

Earl took to golf like a duck to water and holds the record for Most Wins for both the Greytown Golf Championship B Division (5) and the Greytown Senior Golf Champion (5).

He was an avid advocate of golf etiquette & a complete gentleman on the golf course, known to correct bad behavior & tempers on the course when he saw them.

Earl enjoyed participating in the Midlands Golf League & his two main partners over the years were John Slatter & Dim Royden-Turner. Earl & John never lost a match in all the years they played together.

The Earl’s Cup Trophy is made from two of Earl’s very first clubs.
